About a year ago we had the pleasure of meeting Todd. From the first moment we met we knew he was an "explorer", the traveler who seeks to create paths in uncharted territories then turns around and inspires others to seek out those same paths as he guides them along the way through his words. He embodied the explorer so much that we modeled our explorer archetype around him. For explorers it's not enough to go out into the world and have a bunch of meaningless adventures. Explorers are on a mission, a mission to FEEL EVERY MOMENT OF LIFE, and those moments must be met with depth and novelty. Todd, as other explorers set out to do, lives a life that is balanced by his dreams, desire for [some] stability, and his insatiable appetite for personal growth.
As our Explorer archetype, we often reach out to Todd for inspiration, insight, and guidance. Over the last year this routine has fostered a friendship founded on a common desire to create a movement that will inspire others to live deeper fuller lives through travel. During one of our deep dives, we were generating a list of travelers to interview. Naturally Todd was on our list. When we reached out and sent a list of the topics we would be covering, Todd responded in his typical explorer way. He went to his thought bank and pulled out an article that was perfectly suited for the conversation being covered.
The article he had sent was written over four years ago, long before we had met. As with all his writings, Todd does an excellent job at capturing his mindset at that time of each entry, this one being of a young man who is struggling with an inner battle of living his truth and settling for a life of stability and security, and seeking guidance from those living in the immediate world around him. This very young Todd, is facing the struggle of living his truth and settling for security.
“I once read that the most dangerous risk of all is the risk of spending you life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. That’s always stuck with me."
“I once read that the most dangerous risk of all is the risk of spending you life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later. That’s always stuck with me", Todd wrote. He continues "There’s no guarantee that you’ll be alive a year from now. That in itself should motivate people or at the very least terrify them into action, but it rarely does. Many of us put off our dreams and wait for the perfect situation. “I don’t have enough money” or “the timing just isn’t right yet” are two of the most common.” This passage right here is the whole purpose behind "why" we have created WiGo. Behind every globe trotter, travel blogger, explorer, corporate bohemian, wanderer, and so on, lives a strong desire to live life by ones own rhythm. Success to them is only achieved when they can proudly say "I may do a lot of things that are unpopular. I may live a life that others do not understand. I may not be easy to define, but that's ok because I am alive and truly living. I have no regret." WiGo is community created by and for these travelers, one that connects the Todds of the world with those who have not taken those first steps. Sometimes for inspiration and motivation, other times for guidance, and for the most lucky ones to get a real time glimpse of the world through Todds eyes. For the alchemist out there, we highly recommend reading Todd's blog. You'll be traveling with him through his words as you see how each defined moment in his life has reshaped the way he perceives relationships, travel, and the world around him as he searches for inner peace and balances two lives, a life of security and conformity and an unconventional lived in the uncertain.
