The Grand Canyon As You’ve Never Seen It Before!

Picture
The Grand Canyon is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. It is vast, magnificent and unimaginably beautiful and it is easily one of Arizona’s most distinguishable landmarks.
It is also one of the state’s most ancient landmarks. In fact, the Grand Canyon isn’t just old, it’s really, really old. It’s estimated that the Colorado River carved the canyon out during the past 6 million years. There are rocks in the Grand Canyon that have been found to be 2 billion years old. It was named the country’s 17th national park by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919.

Researchers have uncovered more than 4,800 archeological sites that bear the echoes of ancient Indian tribes. Current evidence from artifacts suggests that humans inhabited the Grand Canyon as far back as 4,000 years ago and journeyed through it for 6,500 years before that.

It encompasses 1,217,403 acres and there are several ways to visit the attraction.

Ways to Visit The Grand Canyon

One of the more popular parts of the Grand Canyon is the South Rim and the Grand Canyon Village. It has the park’s largest collection of services, including hotels and lodges, restaurants, a general store, laundry and shower facilities. It also has a bank with an ATM, and a public garage for emergency repairs. There are free shuttle buses that operate in multiple loops including a summer run between Tusayan and the main Grand Canyon Visitor Center.

North Rim

This is less popular, which also means it is less crowded. Here you can find a campground, general store, and camper facilities and it is usually accessible from mid-May to October.

West Rim

The West Rim is home to the Skywalk and sits 4,000 feet above the Canyon floor.

Hiking

There are few places to hike that are as wonderful to explore as the Grand Canyon, which has miles of caves, and over 1,500 unique plant types to discover, plus more than 300 species of birds.

There are several different trails, each with different viewpoints and natural wonders, but all with spectacular scenery.

Rafting

Another way to explore the Grand Canyon is by rafting along the Colorado River which weaves its way through the reds, golds, oranges, and purples of the canyon. There are several rafting tours available, which can last from half a day to several days, depending on what your schedule is.

Other tours

However, there are many ways to travel around the canyon. These include biking tours, mule rides and jeep tours. There are also walking tours and eco-tours that take you around the landscape and give you a chance to view some of the local wildlife.

Airplane and Helicopter Tours

One of the most exhilarating ways to explore this natural wonder is to take an airplane tour around the canyon, or alternatively, a helicopter tour, where you can soak in the sights and get an aerial view that will truly give you a unique insight into the vastness of the region.

Plan the Great Escape!

Exploring the canyon can feel as though you’ve suddenly been transported into another world. Its infinite space, diverse wildlife, and sheer expanse will literally take your breath away. Whether you choose to explore it by foot, by mule, on water or high up in the sky, a Grand Canyon tour will be an unforgettable experience.
