1/26/2020 0 Comments Why San Diego Is Simply Awesome! It doesn’t matter what type of traveler you are, you’ll find your calling in San Francisco. Known as the birthplace of California, San Diego has plenty to keep you busy. The sun is always shining, the beaches are phenomenal and there is no end to the parks, museums, nature reserves and historical sites. In this article, we’ll take you on a personalized tour of some of San Diego’s finest exhibits, so you can get a taste of everyday life in this spectacular city. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve If you truly want to witness the beauty of San Diego, then the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve should be at the top of your list. The 1,750-acre reserve is named after the Torrey Pine tree, which lines the coastal wilderness and hiking trails. The park is a vital habitat for the endangered Torrey Pine, which only grows in this location and off the coast of Santa Barbara on Santa Rosa Island. There are eight miles of trails, which includes the beach trail. Follow this pathway to get down to natural un-touristy, secluded beaches with not a soul in sight. La Jolla Natural scenery always wins the prize when it comes to popular tourist destinations. And La Jolla does not disappoint. It truly gives off a tropical vibe with its cliff edges, caves and of course, a view of the sea. It is also home to some of San Diego’s other top attractions, such as the Torrey Pines (mentioned above), its golf course and state reserve. La Jolla is also famous for its open-air concerts and the majestic views of its Californian coastline. Surfing San Diego is virtually synonymous with surfing. It has more than 70 miles of coastline, viewpoints and beach bars. There are plenty of cool places to surf too. These include Oceanside Harbor and Del Mar Beach, Cardiff, La Jolla shores and Del Mar, among other places. There is also the famous and scenic river mouth point at Trestles, which is world-renowned and hosts WSL competitions from May to September. But you don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy watersports in San Diego. Instead, you can watch some great surfing action from the rocks at Windansea in La Jolla. Balboa Park While Balboa Park is well known for its zoo, museums and concert halls, it also has its fair share of hiking trails and a cactus park, which are less frequented by tourists. So if you want to venture slightly off the beaten park and get away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist attractions, why not take a walk on the wild side and explore the greenery and natural surroundings in Balboa Park? If you’re into yoga, you can also enjoy an hour-long yoga class at 9.30am on sixth avenue and spruce street. Ocean Beach Farmers Market This is no ordinary farmers market and has garnered a reputation as a bit of a hippy hangout spot. The market is based on Ocean Beach and it is held on Wednesday afternoons. In addition to browsing local farm stands and vendors, you’ll also meet your fair share of impromptu yoga classes, prayer circles, fire dancers, guitarists, drummers and jugglers. Cantina Mayahuel This Mexican restaurant also doubles up as a bar and it has been described as the crown jewel of San Diego’s bar scene. Based in North Park, it has stood strong for more than 12 years and it is one of the oldest agave bars and eateries. If you like your drink, then its menu is almost as long as its reputation. It has literally got hundreds of tequilas, mezcals, raicillas, sotols, and bacanoras and agave spirits. Oh and don’t forget the tacos, tasty chips and other gastronomical delights!
